This guide is for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Before using the key, confirm the installed edition and remove older activation settings only when they are actually causing a conflict.
Check the edition
Open Settings → System → Activation and confirm that the installed edition matches your purchase, such as Home or Pro.
A key for a different edition does not automatically change your Windows edition.
Check the current status
Before changing anything, open an administrator console and run slmgr /dli.
To see whether Windows already reports permanent activation, run slmgr /xpr.
If the PC is clean and the edition is correct, there is no need to run cleanup commands.
If an older configuration is still present
Use these commands only when you know an older key or activation setting is interfering.
slmgr /upkremoves the installed key.slmgr /cpkyremoves its copy from the registry.slmgr /ckmsclears a previously configured KMS address.
Restart Windows after removing an older configuration.
Do not run these commands as a routine step on a PC that is already correctly activated.
Enter the key
Use Settings → System → Activation → Change product key.
You can also open an administrator console and run slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, replacing the example with the key from your order.
Keep the key private.
Open telephone activation
Press Win + R, type slui 4 and press Enter.
Choose your country or region. Windows will show an Installation ID divided into groups. Copy the full ID in the same order shown.
Get the Confirmation ID from Sovengrid
Open your order and use the telephone activation tool.
Enter the Installation ID. When the request is valid, you will receive the Confirmation ID for that PC.
Return to Windows and enter the Confirmation ID blocks in the requested order.
Check the result
When finished, open an administrator console again and run slmgr /xpr.
If the edition does not match, slui 4 does not open, the Installation ID is rejected or Windows does not activate, open Support from your order before entering the key again or reinstalling Windows.
